É uma doença degenerativa da retina.
Caracteriza-se por dificuldades na visão noturna (nictalópia) e perda de campo visual periférico e paracentral. Em fases tardias da doença, resta apenas uma pequena “ilha” central de retina funcionante, que permite uma visão tubular.

It is characterized by night blindness (nictalopia) and loss of peripheral and paracentral visual field. In late stages of this disease only a small central island of functional retina remains, allowing only a “tunnel vision”.
